Externs train at four Detroit-area medical centers and/or hospitals for a full calendar year, starting July 2024. The experience includes the provision of a full range of audiologic services to patients of all ages. Diagnostic services include behavioral and electrophysiological assessment of hearing and balance function; treatment services include the selection, fitting, and verification of hearing aid amplification and other assistive and implantable devices. Externs are encouraged to participate in clinic-based research. Students should be comfortable with basic audiometric exams and have a high level of motivation and professionalism.

Our audiologists work closely with the physicians in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) and other professionals to provide thorough audiology assessments and rehabilitative services. With nearly 20, doctoral level audiologists at multiple sites, we are dedicated to helping people with hearing loss and balance disorders to improve their quality-of-life. The audiologists at Henry Ford Health provide a variety of diagnostic and rehabilitative services including:

  • Audiometric testing of Pediatric and Adult Populations
  • Auditory Processing Disorder Assessment and Treatment
  • Balance Function Testing/Vestibular Assessment Services
  • Cochlear Implant Candidacy Determination and Programming
  • Diagnostic Auditory Evoked Potentials (Auditory Brainstem Testing)
  • Fall Prevention Assessment
  • Hearing Aid Evaluation and Dispensing
  • Infant Hearing Screening and Diagnostic Follow-up
  • Tinnitus Evaluation and Management
